Adamson Named Academic All-America

Alison AdamsonSIOUX FALLS – Augustana standout Alison Adamson (Willmar, MN) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Women’s Basketball College Division Academic All-America First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The College Division consists of schools from NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA.

Adamson, a senior point guard, maintains a 3.99 cumulative grade point average as a history major. She was a third-team selection a year ago.

“To receive an award of this magnitude is such an incredible honor,” she said. “It is one of those things I never even imagined was possible, so it makes it that much more special. So many times people see us athletes strictly as performers in the athletic field. They forget that we put in just as much time, energy, and hard work into our classes as well in order to be successful. Academics have always been a top priority to me and so it is nice to be recognized for the commitment and energy I have put into them. After all, we are here, first and foremost, to receive an education. Some of us are just lucky enough to have the opportunity to play sports while we do it.”

Adamson has started all 30 games this season, leading the Vikings to an overall record of 25-5 and a 9-3 mark in the North Central Conference. She is the scoring leader at 15.9 points a game, and also sets the pace in assists (98), steals (74), and 3-pointers (67).

“Ali is a tremendous competitor combined with outstanding talent,” said Augustana head coach Dave Krauth. “She has improved her game every year at Augie and has become one of the best at our level. Her academic achievements approach perfection. She is truly the epitome of a student athlete.”
