Augustana’s Dave Krauth Selected for Regional Honors
SIOUX FALLS – Dave Krauth, Augustana College’s all-time winningest basketball coach, has been named the 2007 Russell Athletic/Women’s Basketball Coaching Association Division II Region 7 Coach of the Year, the WBCA announced Monday.
The 2006-07 season marked Krauth’s 18th year as the Vikings’ head coach. He guided Augie to a 25-7 record and runner-up honors in the North Central Conference regular season standings with a 9-3 mark. His team was one win shy of the school record for a single season.
Augustana opened the season with two losses, then reeled off a school-record 20 consecutive wins. The Vikings were ranked in the top 15 nationally for much of the season, reaching a high at No. 8. Krauth’s crew advanced to the North Central Regional Championships for the second straight year and the ninth time overall.
Krauth has compiled a 355-166 record at Augustana. Ten times his teams have won at least 20 games in a season. He has coached 32 all-conference players, three league MVP’s, and twice in the 1990s his Vikings have led the nation in scoring. He was named North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 1990, and was the South Dakota Sportswriters’ Coach of the Year in 1994.
As a regional winner, Krauth is now eligible for national coach of the year recognition.
