Augustana to Host Norwegian Constitution Day Festivities

SIOUX FALLS - Augustana is celebrating Norwegian Constitution Day on Thursday, May 17, with a variety of activities.

A brunch begins at 11:00 a.m. in the Morrison Commons 3-in-1 room. The featured speaker is Bjorn Olav Boe, a pastor from the Seaman’s Church in Minneapolis. After the program, a kids’ parade will process from the 3-in-1 room around the Augustana campus, ending up at the “Ole the Viking” statue, where ice cream will be served and lawn games played.

This event is hosted by Augustana’s Association of Norwegian Students Abroad.

May 17 commemorates the day in 1814 when Norway’s constitution was signed and is traditionally celebrated with school marching bands leading processions of children, along with games, entertainment, and plenty of food. Please visit www.norway.org/culture/heritage/nationalday.htm for more information on May 17 traditions.

All are welcome to attend. Cost for the brunch is $12. Children 12 and under are $5. Tickets for the brunch/program will be available at the Augustana Morrison Commons front desk, or by calling the Augustana Box Office at 274-4613. Reservations are strongly encouraged by May 15 as space is limited. Tickets must be reserved in advance and either paid for by phone or at the door.

The event is co-sponsored by Augustana’s Association of Norwegian Students Abroad, Office of International Programs and Norwegian Programs.
