During his 39-year tenure, Dr. Thompson served Augustana in a variety of roles, including: dean of men, professor of psychology, vice president for student affairs and director of the Learning Support Center. He retired in 1986.

The Rev. Dr. Robert T. Wagner, class of 1954 and a 1988 Alumni Achievement Award winner, is hailed among many as one of South Dakota’s most earnest advocates for higher education. He was president of South Dakota State University from 1985 to 1997.

Delegates to the annual meeting of the Augustana Association have elected Dr. Mary Jo Kreitzer, '73; Rickard Hedeby, '83; and Emil Her Many Horses, '79, to serve on the College’s Board of Trustees.
'The Spark,’ is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Washington Pavilion. The evening will feature life-size historical photo galleries, food and drink buffets, presentation of the “Spirit of Augustana Awards,” a movie premiere and music and dancing at the Sesquicentennial Ball.
Gregory Levey will present “The Lighter Side of Diplomacy: A Conversation About the Situation in the Middle East and the U.S. Involvement,” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Back Alley.
In honor of the Sesquicentennial, Augustana is returning to its former home in Canton, S.D. The Augustana Choir will present a “Sesqui-Sunday” concert at 9:30 a.m. at Canton Lutheran Church on Sunday, Jan. 23.
This month, students will study in 19 countries on six continents. “At Augustana, we often say that in order to really learn about the world, you have to see it; breathe it; taste it; live it ... we’re working to make certain our students do just that,” said Rob Oliver, president of the College.
