Ellsworth (MN) High School standout Cody Schilling, the most prolific scorer in Minnesota high school boys basketball history, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Augustana College and play for the Vikings, head coach Tom Billeter announced today.
"Our coaching staff, and the entire Augustana community for that matter, is excited to add Cody to our program," Billeter said. "He has so many attributes that you can't list them all. But one trait that my coaching staff and I noticed was how unselfish he is. He is a true team player. He comes from a great program, so we know we're getting a quality young man."
Schilling, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard, led Ellsworth to back-to-back Class A state championships, helping the Panthers to a 63-3 record during his junior and senior seasons.
In the quarterfinals of the 2008 state tournament, Schilling scored 23 points against Granada-Huntley-East Chain to break the state career scoring record. The previous record was 3,365 by Isaiah Dahlmann of Braham. Schilling added to his record total in the semifinals and finals and finished his career with 3,428 points.
Schilling also holds the state's career record for assists with 1,439. He is also the career leader in free throws made and is second in free throws attempted and field goals made.
Schilling joins a recruiting class that already includes Eric Jorgensen of Sioux City, IA, and Leif Nomeland of Osakis, MN. Both signed with the Vikings in November.
