Sophomores Ben Jensen and Jon Held won the race for president and vice president, respectively, of the Augustana Student Association for 2008-2009.
The ASA Election Commission reported the Jensen-Held ticket received 354 votes to 261 for Dane Bloch and Heather Barthelman. The treasurer’s race went to sophomore Jenny Andersen, who garnered 455 votes to 153 for junior Tyler Crissman.
A special inauguration service is scheduled for Monday, May 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Reconciliation.
Jensen, a biology and chemistry major, is the son of Julie and Gary Jensen of Rapid City, S.D. Held, a biology major, is the son of Rebecca and Dr. Bill Held of Sioux Falls. Andersen, the daughter of Patricia and Dennis Andersen of Sioux Falls, is an accounting major.
ASA is the student government of Augustana. ASA works in cooperation with the administration, faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees of the College to confront issues ranging from academic accreditation to buildings and grounds.
ASA runs an annual budget of more than $175,000 and oversees several programming arms including Concert and Lecture, the Union Board of Governors, New Student Orientation, and Viking Days.
