Goodwyn Recipient of Covenant Award for Community

Bob Goodwyn, a senior from Lewistown, Mont., is the recipient of the Augustana Covenant Award for Community. He was presented the award during Family Weekend activities on February 23.Bob Goodwyn

Goodwyn is majoring in mathematics and secondary education. He is the son of Garland and Denise Goodwyn of Lewistown.

Covenant Awards are presented throughout the school year to recognize students who embody Augustana’s five core values – Christian, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community, Service.

He was selected by fellow students to the Royal Court for Viking Days 2007 and subsequently elected King. This year he is also serving as president of the Augieholics, a student-led group addicted to Augie athletics. It is a group Viking coaches appreciate.

"Every coach in the NCC makes reference to our tremendous student fan support,” said Tom Billeter, head coach of the men’s basketball team. “They acknowledge their effectiveness towards a home court advantage, the classiness in which the ‘cheering’ is given, and the overall organization of our entire student cheering section."

Additional campus activities include Students Keeping Ole’s Legacy (SKOL), Union Board of Governors Big Event, men’s club soccer, and intramurals. In addition, Goodwyn serves as a math tutor.

Goodwyn is on track to graduate this spring, and will begin a 14-week stint as a student teacher in the fall. In the spring of 2009 he plans to continue his studies in New Zealand.

Teaching has been a long term goal for Goodwyn, and he plans to be a math teacher at the high school level.
