Augustana's Corey McIntosh and David Foster have been named to the 2007-08 All-North Central Conference men's basketball team, the league office
announced Tuesday. In addition, McIntosh was chosen newcomer of the
year.
McIntosh, a senior from West Covina, Calif., transferred to Augustana from Iowa State University this season. He averaged 17.9 points and 5.83 assists per game in conference play to rank second in the league in both categories. He was also fifth in the NCC in free throw percentage (84.7), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.75) and eighth in steals (1.17 pg).
McIntosh scored more than 30 points five times this season. Included was a career-high 37 in a 95-90 overtime win over No. 3 South Dakota and a 35-point performance against Minnesota Duluth in the opening round of the NCC Tournament.
McIntosh was named the NCC player of the week three times during the
season, and he also earned a spot on the NCC All-Tournament
Team.
Foster, a guard from Big Timber, Mont., was the only sophomore named to the 11-member team. Foster had a breakout year in 2007-08. He was second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game. He also made a team-high 51 3-pointers, while making 47 percent of his shots from behind the arc.
In the NCC statistics, Foster was 15th in scoring (12.9 pg) and 14th in rebounding (4.8 pg). He led the league in 3-point shooting (54.2 percent), while ranking fifth in 3-pointers made (2.17 avg).
McIntosh and Foster led Augustana to a 21-8 overall record and an 8-4 record in the NCC, which helped the Vikings to a runner-up finish in the league standings.
The Vikings also qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1988-89 season. Augustana will face Minnesota State University, Mankato, on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the first round of the North Central Regional Tournament in Winona, Minn.
