Augustana’s Ashley Holiday and Amy Puthoff have been named to the 2008All-North Central Conference women's basketball team, the league office announced Wednesday. In addition, the Vikings’Whitney Hofer and Molly Hayes received honorable mention recognition, while Holiday wasnamed co-defensive player of the year and Hayes earned co-freshman of the year honors.
Holiday, a senior center from Hayti, S.D., led the conference in blocked shots (2.89 pg) and was fourth in rebounding (7.2 pg). Her school-record 310 career blocks ranks her 13th in NCAA Division II history. She averaged 12.2 points pergame and recorded eight double-doubles this season. In addition, she was named NCC player of the week on December 3, 2007.
Holiday is one of four repeat performers from last year's team. She was also the defensive player honoree for 2005-2006. She is the second Viking to win defensive player of the year; Sandra Zwach received the award in1996-1997.
Puthoff, a junior guard from Hartford, S.D., was second in scoring in the conference with 17.8 points a game. She scored 20 or more points ten times this season, including a career-high 25 against South Dakota. This season she was named MVP of the Disney West Coast Tip-Off, named to the Chuck Stevens Classic All-Tournament team, and was named NCC Player of the Week on February 25, 2008.


Hofer, a forward from Hartford, S.D., led the team in rebounding, which also ranked her third in the NCC. She recorded four double-doubles this season as well as a 10-point, 10-rebound,10-assist triple-double against St. Cloud State. Hofer was named to the Disney West Coast Tip-Off and Concordia-St. Paul Classic all-tournament teams and was named NCC player of the week on November 19, 2007. She was also named to the Academic All-NCC team this season.
Hayes, a red-shirt freshman from Sioux Falls, is the second Viking in three years, and third overall, to receive freshman of the year honors. She joins teammate Chelsea DeVille, the 2005-06 winner, and Heidi Morlock, the 1990-91 recipient.
Hayes, the Vikings' starting point guard, was second on the team in scoring (12.6 pg) and sixth in the NCC with 15.8. She was third in the NCC in assists (4.68 pg). Hayes earned NCC player of the week honors on January 28, 2008.
