Scholarship Concert Entertaining, Fun, and Free. Seriously!

Augustana College’s annual Scholarship Concert will be held Thursday, April 10, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Washington Pavilion. The 2008 concert is billed as “Serious Music, Serious Fun, Seriously Free!”

Admission is free and tickets are not required. Free-will donations will be accepted during the concert with proceeds going to the Band Scholarship Fund.

Three bands will be featured during the evening – the Augustana Band, the Augustana Wind Ensemble, and the Augustana College/Community Band. Combined, more than 200 musicians will perform a repertoire ranging from traditional marches to light classics.

Other unique aspects of this performance include:

* Guest conductors, Dr. Steven Suddeth, The University of South Dakota, and Dr. James Johnson, Augustana College Choral Director.

* Guest narrator, Dr. Mark Braun, Senior Vice President for Academics and Dean of the College, Augustana College.

* Student soloist, Augustana senior Nathan Sletten (Lake Mills, IA) performing on guitar a world premier selection entitled “Piccaro,” by Jeremy Hegg, a 1994 graduate of Augustana.

* A mass ensemble selection at the end of the concert, “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Musicians will be performing from all three levels in the Great Hall.

The concert not only showcases the talented students making up the Augustana ensembles, but also the private citizens from all walks of life who continue to pursue their passion for music as members of the Augustana/Community Band.
