AUGUSTANA (6-4, 4-4 NCC) completes its 2000 schedule on Saturday, November 11, against the University of Northern Colorado (4-6, 3-5). Game time is 12:00 p.m. at Howard Wood Field.
The game matches the top two passing offenses and quarterbacks in the North Central Conference.
WITH ONE game remaining, Augustana is assured of its first winning season since 1992 when the Vikings posted an 8-3 mark.
THE VIKINGS and Bears meet for the 21st time. UNC leads the series 17-3. A year ago in Greeley, Colo., the Bears defeated the Vikings 48-32. Augie quarterback Eric DeGraff completed 26 of 45 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown

LAST WEEKEND the Univresity of Nebraska-Omaha clinched a share of the North Central Conference title and snapped Augie's three-game winning streak with a convincing 45-7 win before a crowd of 5,100 at Al F. Caniglia Stadium in Omaha, Neb. Senior quarterback Eric DeGraff scored Augie's lone touchdown on a one-yard run. The Mavericks rolled up 559 yards to Augie's 322. Augie turned the ball over five times. DeGraff passed for 235 yards and was intercepted twice. Nate Fluit sparked the defensive effort with nine tackles. Roman Evans had eight tackles and recovered a fumble. Joe Evenson also recovered a fumble.
Northern Colorado lost to North Dakota State University 38-14 in Fargo, N.D. Bears quarterback Jon Boyer fired touchdown passes of 51 and 68 yards.

VIKING CAPTAINS for the 2000 campaign are linebacker Derik Budig, quarterback Eric DeGraff, defensive lineman Joe Quinn, and offensive lineman Ryan Stadum.
SENIOR quarterback Eric DeGraff is Augustana's career leader in touchdown passes with 67. He is also the career leader in total offense (9,747), passing yards (9,151), pass completions (785), and passing attempts (1,309).
With two conference games remaining, DeGraff holds the NCC career record for pass completions with 648. He also holds the record for attempts with 1,090.
JUNIOR wide receiver Matt Holmlund holds the Augustana career record for touchdown receptions (27) and is the Vikings' career leader in receptions with 213. He has caught 15 touchdown passes this year to become the single season record holder. He now holds the school record for receiving yards in a season with 1,280. Jeff Rusk set the record of 1,063 in 1983. Holmlund has caught 95 passes this season, erasing Chad Gomarko's mark of 78 set in 1997. Holmlund is now Augie's career leader in receiving yards with 2,611. Tom Brown set the mark of 2,421 between 1982-85. He has tied the North Central Conference record with 11 touchdown receptions in a season, and needs eight receptions to tie the conference season record of 76.
Junior wide receiver Ryan Nodland now has 164 career receptions.
IN THE CONFERENCE: Augustana is first in passing offense with 289 yards a game. The Vikings also lead in total offense (406 yards a game). This season the Vikings are No. 1 in first downs (166) and in third-down conversions. And Augie is the least penalized team in the league.
Eric DeGraff leads the league in passing at 271 yards a game. The Alleman, Iowa, senior is also No. 1 in total offense at 284 yards a game. Matt Holmlund is first in receptions (68) and receiving yards (868). Ryan Nodland is third in receptions (39) and in receiving yards (576).
Senior cornerback Roman Evans is tied for the lead in interceptions with five.
JIM HEINITZ (62-78-1) is in his 13th season as Augustana's head coach. He was named North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1992. The 1992 season is among the most memorable in Augustana athletic history as the Vikings posted an 8-3 record after going winless in 1991. The South Dakota Sportswriters Association named Heinitz Men's College Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1992, and he was selected the Kodak College Coach of the Year in Region Four in 1988. Heinitz served three years as Augie's offensive line coach before being named head coach in 1985. He resigned to enter private business after the 1992 season, but returned to Augustana in January, 1996. In 1988 and 1989 Augustana made its only appearances in the NCAA Division II playoffs. During the Heinitz years the Vikings have had three eight-win seasons. A two-time All-NCC linebacker at South Dakota State University, Heinitz coached football at the University of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Washington High School, Sioux Falls Lincoln High School, and Rapid City Stevens High School before coming to Augie.
