Vikings' Kari Peterson National Player of the Year

SIOUX FALLS - Augustana's Kari Peterson, junior setter from Moorhead, Minn., has been selected the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Year.

This season Peterson led the North Central Conference in assists, averaging 14.49 a game. She is third nationally with 13.96. She hit .383 with 118 kills. She also contributed 26 service aces and 365 digs as the Vikings rolled to a 28-3 record, a share of the North Central Conference title, and their first North Central Region crown.

Peterson is joined on the AVCA's All-America first team by senior outside hitter Lindsay Voss from Lakefield, Minn. This is Peterson's first appearance on the All-America team, while Voss has been selected for the third time. She was a first-team pick in 1999 and a second team choice in 1998. Senior middle blocker Lori Fossum, Canton, S.D., has been named to the second team for the second straight year.

Voss has moved into second place on Augustana's career list for kills with 1,561. This season she leads the Vikings in kills with 475. She is hitting .280. She is second on the team in digs this year with 381 and is third in service aces with 32.

Fossum led the North Central Conference is hitting percentage at .361. She has 328 kills this season, third best on the team. She is the team leader in block assists with 77. She has moved into third place on the school's career list for blocks with 369.

The AVCA will present the 20th annual All-America awards on Thursday, November 29, at the NCAA Division II Women's Elite Eight Tournament banquet at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Sioux Falls.
