SIOUX FALLS - Augustana freshman Julie Gifford, Balaton, Minn., earned All-America honors with a 31st-place finish in the women's competition at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships Saturday, November 18, in Chico, Calif.
Gifford's time was 22 minutes, 51.8 seconds for 6,000 meters, capping an outstanding first season of collegiate competition.
She was the only Augustana runner to qualify for the national meet. She did so by finishing 15th at the North Central Region Championships November 4 at the Fort Hays State University course in Hays, Kan. Her time was 22:40 for 6,000 meters.
Gifford was the runner-up at the North Central Conference championships held October 14 in Fargo, N.D. Her time was 22:09.79 on the Edgewood Golf Course 6,000-meter course.
She was also the runner-up in the Augustana Open, completing the 5,000-meter course at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Brandon, S.D., in 18:11.84.
