VIKING VOLLEYBALL 2000

AUGUSTANA (23-1, 12-1 NCC) is idle until Tuesday, October 31, when it travels to Brookings, S.D., to battle eighth-ranked South Dakota State University (22-3, 10-3).

IN THEIR LATEST action, the No. 2-nationally ranked Vikings swept to wins against Saint Cloud State University and Minnesota State, Mankato.

Coach Kim Marcil played all 12 members of the squad on the way to a 15-4, 15-8, 15-3 win at Saint Cloud State. Lindsay Voss had 10 kills, eight digs, and a block assist. Katy Peterson posted nine kills with three digs, three block assists, and two service aces. She hit .562. Tara Boeve had eight kills and three block assists. Teresa Resch also had three block assists. Kari Peterson registered 35 set assists, two block assists, and a service ace.

Voss rang up nine kills, 14 digs, two block assists, and a service ace as the Vikings downed Minnesota State, Mankato 15-8, 15-5, 15-9. Again, all 12 Vikings saw action. Katy Peterson had seven kills and 10 digs, while Kari Peterson had 29 set assists, five digs, and two service aces.

SENIOR OUTSIDE hitter Lindsay Voss has moved into second place in career kills at Augie with 1,428. She is third in digs with 1,392.

Katy Peterson now has 1,034 career kills, and Lori Fossum 997.

IN THE CONFERENCE: Augustana leads the North Central Conference in hitting percentage (.297), and kills per game (17.51). The Vikings are second in assists per game (15.37), service aces (1.93), and Digs (20.23).

Augie's Lori Fossum leads the NCC in hitting percentage (.343). Kari Peterson is first in set assists per game (14.28), while her twin sister, Katy, leads in service aces (0.57). Lindsay Voss is second in digs per game (4.26).

AUGUSTANA has set a record for consecutive games won with 38. The previous mark of 16 was set a year ago.

AUGUSTANA is the recipient of the 1999-2000 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award sponsored by Molten U.S.A. Inc. This award honors teams that have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom.

COMING UP

CAPTAINS for the 2000 team are Lindsay Voss, Lori Fossum, Jenny Ganahl, and Katy Peterson.

COACH KIM SUDBECK-MARCIL (152-41) is in her sixth season as the Vikings' head coach. She has guided the Vikings to two North Central Conference titles and four straight appearances in the NCAA Division II region playoffs. She was named NCC co-coach of the year in 1996 and 1997. She was a member of Augustana's 1991 national championship softball team and was named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team. She served as assistant volleyball coach at Sioux Falls O'Gorman High School, South Dakota State University, and Morningside College before becoming Augie's head coach.

STEPHANIE RADECKI is in her first year as Augie's assistant coach and instructor in health, physical education, and recreation. A graduate of Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pa., she was a graduate assistant coach at the University of North Alabama before joining the Viking staff. She was named Edinboro's Senior Female Athlete of the Year for 1996-97. She was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1996, and was named to the all-conference first team for two years. She was chosen to the Atlantic Region Team for two years, and served as Edinboro's team captain. With Radecki in the lineup, Edinboro made four appearances in the PSAC playoffs, was the league champion in 1994, won two regional crowns, and made two appearances in the Elite Eight.
