AUGUSTANA SOCCER
THE VIKINGS (4-13, 3-6 NCC) complete their inaugural season with a pair of
matches this weekend.
The Vikings travel to Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, October 28, for a rematch
with Morningside College (4-15, 0-9). Augie hosted the Mustangs earlier in the
season and posted a 3-2 win in overtime at Yankton Trails. That game counted in
the North Central Conference standings.
Augustana caps its season on Sunday, October 29, hosting Rockhurst University
(7-10) of Kansas City, Mo. The match begins at 1:00 p.m. at Yankton Trails.
AUGUSTANA completed its North Central Conference schedule last weekend on
the road.
The Vikings lost to league champion Minnesota State, Mankato 7-1. Sarah Madden
scored Augie's goal at 79:04. The Vikings were outshot 30-7.
Augie trailed Saint Cloud State Univcersity 2-0 after the first half, but
the Huskies scored four goals in the second half for a 6-0 win. Saint Cloud had
40 shots to Augie's six.
VIKING HEAD COACH Shelly Nelson graduated from Augustana in 1980. Nelson coached
track, volleyball, girls basketball, and boys basketball at the School for Deaf
in Sioux Falls between 1978 and 1982. She has been involved in the Sioux Falls
Soccer Association and has been a coach and manager in the Great Plains Soccer
Association.
