Children's Theatre Company, Augustana Offer Theatre Classes for Kids

SIOUX FALLS - This fall, The Children's Theatre Company of Sioux Falls, in partnership with Augustana College, presents Theatre Classes for Kids.

Beginning in September, the following classes will be offered.

Act It Out! (ages 5-8) - Through shared storytelling, students will act out stories from well-known children's literature. Students will develop confidence in speaking and listening while working with others. Classes incorporate lots of physical activity and fun. The instructor is Nancy Henrichsen, who has taught creative drama with young children since 1990.

Where the Wild Things Are! (ages 6-8) - Through improvisation, storytelling, mask making and movement, students will bring the loveable Wild Things from Maurice Sendak's charming book from the page to the stage in their own creative adaptation of the text.

The instructor is Christine Bennett, who worked on a variety of projects with and for children in Washington, D.C.

Play Time (ages 8-11) - Students will use theatre games and experimentation to develop a finished “show” that is performed for family and friends at the final session. This class will enhance confidence and public speaking skills while students have a great time creating their own script. Nancy Henrichsen is the instructor.

Introduction to Musical Theatre (ages 10-15) - If you love to sing, dance and act, this class is for you! Students will learn to prepare and perform songs from popular musical shows. No experience or prior training is necessary to enjoy this fun filled-class. The instructor is Nancy Halverson, founder and artistic director of The Children's Theatre Company of Sioux Falls.

Beginning Acting (middle school) - This class is designed for students who are eager to explore acting and have a blast! Through theatre games and improvisation, students will learn to develop characters and explore the fun of acting. Students will also develop self-esteem and confidence while learning stage presence and practicing collaboration.

The instructor is Wyatt Yeager, a junior theatre major at Augustana.
