Special Performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' set for January
11
Augustana College Theatre will be hosting a special performance
of William Shakespeare's comedy, “A Midsummer Night's Dream” on
January 11 at 7:30 p.m.
This very unique production was created by the University of
South Dakota's Department of Theatre. What makes this production
unique is the action of the play is presented by marionettes, the
miniature characters whose limbs are controlled by the magic of
puppeteers.
Doug Strich, a student who trained in puppetry at The Paper Moon
Theatre in New Jersey, has adapted Shakespeare's classic to a one-hour
version for marionettes. He directs the action and has designed
the puppets and costumes. Past productions with marionettes under
his leadership at USD include “A Christmas Carol” and “Rumpelstiltskin.”
“A Midsummer Night's Dream” is an enduring tale of love, magic
and dreams that is recommended for ages eight and above.
The production takes place in the main theatre of the Edith Mortenson
Center, which is located in the center of the Augustana campus
north of the Morrison Commons. Parking is available in the Humanities
parking lot at 30th Street and Grange Avenue.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, $3 for non-Augustana
students and children, and $1 with a valid Augustana ID. To make
a reservation, call 274-5320.
