Professor has Answers to Mysteries in Science
SIOUX FALLS - Got questions? Dr. Ronald DeLorenzo probably has
the answers.
For example, why does smoke go to the ground if rain is due? Or,
what’s the real reason why hot water pipes freeze first? Maybe you’ve
wondered why intelligent people join cults.
Dr. DeLorenzo will answer these questions and more during an appearance
at Augustana on Thursday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Recital
Hall. His presentation is entitled, “From the Loch Ness Monster
to the Killer Lake of Cameroon: Mysteries in Science.” The event
is free and open to the public.
Dr. DeLorenzo is a chemistry professor at Middle Georgia College
in Cochran, Ga. During his academic career he has received numerous
awards for excellence in teaching and has authored or served as
a contributing author for nine college textbooks.
He is a graduate of Saint John’s University in New York City and
received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts
in Lowell, Mass., and did post-doctoral work at Duke University.
During his program at Augustana, Dr. DeLorenzo will utilize a
beta version of Power Point 3-D, which he has created from a piece
of cardboard, to present unbelievably realistic images.
Dr. DeLorenzo’s appearance is sponsored by the Augustana College
Chemistry Department and the Sioux Valley Section of the American
Chemical Society.
