Augustana Theatre Presnts “Charley's Aunt”
SIOUX FALLS, SD - Augustana Theatre presents “Charley's Aunt,” one
of the greatest farces ever written, on May 1-3 and May 8-10 at
7:30 p.m. in the main theatre of the Edith Mortenson Center.
“Charley's Aunt” by Brandon Thomas is one of the world's best
know and popular comedies. It has been a smash hit for the past
100 years.
Two college chums try to have a private rendezvous with their
lady friends, but society demands that an adult chaperone be present.
Charley's aunt is supposed to perform that role, but just as the
ladies are about to arrive, Charley finds out that his aunt will
not be coming after all. They quickly convince their friend, Babs,
to disguise himself as Charley's aunt and from that moment on comic
mayhem rules the day.
Dale Miller, who graduated from Augustana in 1958 and is a theatre
professor at Purdue University, is directing the show. He describes
Charley's Aunt as “The most well-defined farce because everything
that happens in the play is possible, but nothing that happens
in probable.”
He says the play is filled with “some of the most lovely, charming
young people you'll ever meet in any play.”
The production features the talents of Augustana students Rahul
Bansal (New Delhi, India), Joe Gentzler (Indianola, IA), Kathleen
Grode (Rapid City, SD), Angie Hauk (Valley Springs, SD), Sammuel
Hawkins (La Center, WA), Amanda Johnson (Sioux Falls, SD), Nick
Leeman (Chaska, MN), Heidi Meyer (Volga, SD), Tom Sorenson (Hastings,
MN) and Wyatt Yager (Sioux Falls, SD).
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for non-Augustana
students and children, and $1 with a valid Augustana ID. Tickets
can be reserved by calling 274-5320. |
