144th Academic Year Begins at Augustana College on September
3
SIOUX FALLS - Augustana College begins its 144th academic year
on Wednesday, September 3.
The opening convocation begins at 10:00 a.m. on September 3 at
Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Faculty will process to the church
in academic robes.
The speaker is Dr. Ann Pederson, professor of religion and recipient
of the Stanley L. Olsen Chair of Moral Values. The title of her
talk is, "Living Until We Die, Dying Until We Live."
Four students, chosen to receive prestigious Sophomore Honors
Awards, will be recognized during the convocation program. The
Faculty Scholarship and Awards Committee determines selection on
the basis of scholarship, character, personal traits, and other
evidence of achievement.
Selected to receive the award for outstanding achievement as
sophomores are:
Leslie Baehr, Bakersfield, Calif. The daughter of Michael
and Kimberly Baehr, Leslie is majoring in biology.
Michael Bergan, Madison, S.D. Michael is the son of
Dr. Judson and Jean Bergan. He is majoring in mathematics.
Jenny Onberg, Rosemount, Minn. A biology major, Jenny
is the daughter of Glenn and Hazel Onberg.
Jacob Quail, Volga. S.D. Jacob is majoring in biology
and government/international affairs. He is the son of Warren and
Trudy Quail.
Augustana's residence halls open at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, August
31.
Augustana is a liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America.
