Nine Juniors Receive Christopherson Scholarships

SIOUX FALLS, SD - Nine Augustana College juniors have been awarded Fred C. and J. Marie Christopherson Scholarships for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Selection was made by the Augustana Faculty Scholarship and Awards Committee on the basis of scholarship, campus/community service, and how well the nominee fit the description of the donors as someone “equipped for life.”

Fred C. Christopherson, who died in 1989, was the editor of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader for 31 years. J. Marie Christopherson also died in 1989. Her column, “Driftwood,” appeared in the Argus Leader for 20 years.

The recipients, their majors, and their hometowns are:

• Daniel Breuer, social studies, Luverne, Minn.
• Tom Howard, biology, Sioux Falls, SD.
• Jason Leach, psychology and sociology, Sibley, Iowa.
• Erin Neumann, social work psychology, Wabasso, Minn.
• Ryan Ovenden, exercise science/fitness management, Sioux Falls, SD.
• Dean Smith, nursing, Sioux Falls, SD.
• Kevin Sobolik, exercise science, Fargo, N.D.
• Leah Swanson, biology, Rapid City, S.D.
