Nursing Department Faculty Honored at State Nurses Convention

Karen Dorn and Muriel Larson, members of Augustana College's nursing faculty, were honored at the South Dakota Nurses' Association Convention held October 3-7 in Pierre, S.D.

Dorn, Associate Professor of Nursing, received the Pioneer in Nursing Award. Larson, Assistant Professor of Nursing, received the Joy of Nursing Award.

Dorn has been a member of the Augustana nursing faculty since 1993 and holds the Avera McKennan Nursing Professorship at Augustana. She has a special interest in the health of military populations and has served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps for more than 20 years in active duty and reserve assignments.

Larson, a graduate of Augustana's Master's in Nursing Program, joined the Augustana faculty in 2001 after teaching nursing at the University of South Dakota for many years. She has a special interest in transcultural nursing and teaches a January interim course in Greece.

The South Dakota Nurses Association is the professional organization for registered nurses in South Dakota. It is a constituent of the American Nurses Association.
