Augustana Symposium This Saturday

The 2004 Augustana Symposium is Saturday, April 17.

Student research presentations begin at 1:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Madsen Center.

The keynote address at 7:00 p.m. in the Edith Mortenson Center main theatre features Julia T. Wood, Ph.D. Her topic is, "Small Talk: What it Does and Why it Matters."

Wood is a professor of communication studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since completing her Ph.D. at age 24, she has conducted research and written extensively about communication in personal relationships and about gender, communication, and culture. In addition to publishing more than 60 articles and chapters, she has authored or coauthored 15 books and edited or coedited six others. The recipient of eight awards for outstanding teaching and eight awards for distinguished scholarship, Wood divides her professional energies between writing and teaching.
