Augustana Names Assistant Coach in Track and Cross Country

SIOUX FALLS - Augustana Athletic Director Bill Gross today announced the appointment of Ty Heaton as assistant coach for cross country and track and field.

Heaton has been the cross country ski coach at Mounds View, Minn., High School for the past three years. In addition, he was an assistant coach in track and field.

He has also served as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Minnesota women's track and field team for the past three seasons. In that capacity he has worked with four conference champions and six All-Americans.

For two seasons he was the marathon coach for the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Heart Association. He also coached track and field for one season at De Smet High School, where he was in charge of the sprints, hurdles, and jumps.

He was an assistant coach in track and cross country at the University of Sioux Falls for three years.

Heaton competed for Northern State University and South Dakota State University. He has a bachelor's degree from NSU and a master's degree from SDSU.

He has competed nationally in biathlons and marathons.
