Augustana's Jackie Hingst Recipient of Stan Marshall Award
SIOUX FALLS - Augustana College volleyball standout Jackie Hingst (Hooper, NE) is the recipient of the 2004 Stan Marshall Award.
The award is given annually to one male and one female senior student-athlete who distinguish themselves through academic performance, athletic ability, and community activities. For the third time in the awards history, but the first time on the women's side, a tie occurred in the voting and as a result two female and two male student-athletes are honored this year. Joining Hingst are Mandy Koupal from the University of South Dakota; Sebastian Andersson from the University of North Dakota, and Alex Carlson from Saint Cloud State University.
The award is named in memory of longtime South Dakota State University athletic director, Stan Marshall, who passed away in 1980. Marshall was a leader at the conference and national levels of intercollegiate athletics. Recipients of the Stan Marshall Award are selected by the North Central Conference's institutional representatives.
Hingst was named to the Dean's List each semester she attended Augustana and graduated in May with magna cum laude distinction. She maintained a 3.73 grade point average in psychology and sociology.
She is a two-time selection to the All-North Central Conference volleyball team and was named to the 2003 Academic All-NCC team. She became the seventh player in Augustana history to exceed 1,000 career digs and career kills. She is ranked 13th in career kills at Augie with 1,071.
In 2003 conference play, she ranked first in serving aces, first in digs, and seventh in kills. She was named to the 2003 North Central Region all-tournament team.
Hingst is the recipient of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce/Fellowship of Christian Athletes 2004 Honor Athlete Award, and the NCC's Ruth Marske Award. |
