UCLA Professor to Speak on Medieval Trial by Combat
SIOUX FALLS - Professor Eric Jager of the University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA) will give a lecture at Augustana College on Friday,
April 16.
The topic is a sensational 14th century French legal case that
is the subject of Professor Jager's new book, The
Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in
Medieval France (Broadway,
2004).
Professor Jager's lecture at 5:15 p.m. in the Madsen Center,
room 202, is free and open to the public.
Professor Jager's presentation is part of the 2004 Northern Plains
Conference on Earlier British Literature hosted by the Department
of English and Journalism at Augustana College. Faculty and students
from colleges and universities in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa,
Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Kansas will gather to present their research
on works by Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, John Milton,
and other English writers.
The lecture is funded in part by Augustana College's Mellon Fund
