Dan Breuer Wins Augustana Covenant Award for Excellence

SIOUX FALLS - Dan Breuer, a senior from Luverne, Minn., is the recipient of the Augustana Covenant Award for Excellence.

Breuer received the award from Augustana President Bruce R. Halverson before a Boe Forum crowd of 4,000 in the Elmen Center Thursday night.

"The Covenant Award is a special recognition of our students at Augustana," President Halverson said. "The award provides our campus community with an opportunity as a college of faith and character to acknowledge the gifts that our students bring to Augustana as reflected in our five values: Christian, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community, and Service."

Earlier in the school year, Covenant Awards sponsored by Student Services were awarded to Ann Rosendale (Mankato, MN) for Christian Faith, Rhea Staniszewski (Russell, MN) for Liberal Arts, and Ryan Ovenden (Sioux Falls, SD) for Community.

Breuer is a Dean's List student majoring in social studies teaching and secondary education. He served as vice president of the Augustana Student Association for the 2002-2003 school year, and in the fall of 2004 was co-chair of New Student Orientation.

He has been described as, "compassionate and caring with a huge heart and an enormous concern for others."

In nominating Breuer, a faculty member wrote: "In this special student's four years at Augustana, a pattern of servant leadership has emerged and it is clear that the time and effort invested by this student have and will continue to make Augustana a better place."

Breuer is the son of Leroy and Pearl Breuer.
