Augustana Hosts Nordland Fest 2004
SIOUX FALLS - Nordland Fest 2004 welcomes all ages and all ethnic backgrounds as we celebrate heritage on the campus of Augustana College on Saturday, June 19.
The festival's opening concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, in Kresge Recital Hall and features Aders Gustafsson, a young pianist and singer from Amal, Sweden. Beverly Gibson, associate professor of music at Augustana, and the Sweet Swinging Swiss will join him. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
Saturday, June 19, is Family Heritage Day. Festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. with a children's parade starting at the Elmen Center and progressing to Augustana's Heritage Park on 33rd Street.
Exhibits of arts and crafts will be set up in the Elmen Center. Tours of historic buildings and activities for all ages are planned at Heritage Park. Food and entertainment will be available in the Elmen Center and at Heritage Park. All events are free. There is a charge for food.
The annual Scandinavian Evening takes place in the Elmen Center. Featured are a Scandinavian smorgasbord and a program featuring master yodeler Kerry Christensen, and the Sioux Valley Singers. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children 12-and-under. Reservations are required.
On Sunday, June 20, there will be a church service in the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Sneen presiding. The Nordland Heritage Foundation Brunch and program begins at noon in the Morrison Commons. The speaker is the Rev. Leroy Iseminger who will be telling the story of the Beaver Creek Church. The cost for brunch is $7.95. Reservations are required.
