Pierre Cruzatte and the Music of the Lewis and Clark Expedition
SIOUX FALLS - The Center for Western Studies at Augustana College presents an evening of dining and entertainment on Tuesday, June 15, at the Oaks Hotel Convention Center.
The featured entertainment is Pierre Cruzatte and the Music of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a reception and viewing of pieces selected from the Center's current exhibit, "Lewis and Clark - Through Artists' Eyes 1804-2004."
Dinner, "Tasting the Cuisine of the Corps of Discovery," is served at 7:00 p.m.
Daniel Slosberg portrays the "Songs and Tales of Pierre Cruzatte" beginning at 8:15 p.m.
Bringing to life a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from 200 years ago is Slosberg's passion for the next two years. He will portray one of the most famous members of the Company, Pierre Cruzatte, the French-and-Indian river man who served as bowman in the keelboat and who often entertained the explorers with his exuberant fiddle playing.
Besides his musicianship and his ability to navigate the Missouri, Cruzatte could speak Omaha, was skilled in Indian sign language, and was a negotiator of accomplishment. In his re-enactment of Private Cruzatte, Slosberg combines music and narrative.
