Kiner Appointed Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs
SIOUX FALLS – Dr. Bob Kiner, chair of the Education Department, has accepted an appointment as Augustana College 's Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 school years. Dr. Kiner succeeds Dr. Richard Hanson, who has been elected president of Waldorf College in Forest City , Iowa .
“We are grateful for Bob's willingness to lead us through this time of transition as we complete our strategic planning and reorganize our Dean's office,” said Augustana President Dr. Bruce Halverson. “Bob's many years of experience as an administrator both at Augustana and in the Sioux Falls public schools and his tremendous commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for all people make him an excellent appointment for us.”
Dr. Kiner has served a chair of Augustana's Education Department since 2001. He came to Augustana after serving 33 years with the Sioux Falls School District . He is a graduate of Sioux Falls College , and earned a master's degree in secondary curriculum instruction and a doctorate in education administration from the University of South Dakota .
He was the assistant principal at Lincoln High School and Patrick Henry Middle School , supervisor of community education programs, assistant director at Southeast Technical Institute, and principal at Whittier and Memorial middle schools as well as Roosevelt High School and Patrick Henry. He served as interim superintendent of the Sioux Falls School District during the 1993-94 school year.
Dr. Hanson begins serving as Waldorf College 's 14 th president on June 1, 2005. He has served as Dean of the College and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Augustana College since 1995. He served as acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of University Studies, and Professor of Child Development and Family Service all at North Dakota State University prior to coming to Augustana.
