12th Annual Community Service Day is Saturday, April 30
SIOUX FALLS – More than 300 students, faculty, and staff will be participating in Augustana College’s 12th annual Community Service Day on Saturday, April 30.
The theme for this year’s event, which in being held in conjunction with the Relay for Life, is “Weekend of Service.”
Kickoff is set for 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Reconciliation on the Augustana campus. Work groups plan to be at their assigned agencies and on the job by 10:00 a.m. When projects are completed, work groups return to campus for a barbeque at 5:00 p.m. The Relay for Life begins at 7:00 p.m. and continues through 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
Among the agencies benefiting from the volunteers’ efforts are Alpha, Arch, Asbury Methodist Church, Avera Prince of Peace, Berakah House, Center for Active Generations, Children’s Care Hospital, Children’s Home Society, Children’s Inn, Family Connection,, Glory House, Goodwill Industries, Great Plains Zoo, Habitat For Humanity, Heartland House, Leif Erickson, Luther Manor, New Haven, Outdoor Campus, Red Cross, Ronald McDonald House, Sioux Falls Humane Society, Special Olympics, Saint Francis House, Saint Vincent De Paul, Veterans Administration Hospital, Volunteers of America, and the Washington Pavilion.
Community and Service are part of Augustana’s five core values, which include Christian, Liberal Arts, and Excellence.
Augustana’s second annual Relay for Life is sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer and in cooperation with the American Cancer Society. The overnight event is designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for cancer research and programs. |
