Four Vikings Qualify for National Track Meet

SIOUX FALLS – Augustana’s track and field teams qualified four individuals for the 2005 NCAA Division II National Indoor Track and Field Championships scheduled for March 11-12 in Boston.

Becky Schulz (Westbrook, MN), Shelby Eykyn (Worthington, MN) and Sara Hayes (Waukee, IA) qualified for the women, and Luke Baltrusch (Colorado Springs, CO) for the men.

Schulz automatically qualified in the high jump with a season-best effort of 5-feet, 9¼ inches. She tied for fifth at the 2004 national meet, earning All-America honors.

Eykyn qualified in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds. She is also a returning All-America after placing eighth in last year’s national meet.

Hayes is making her first appearance in national competition. She advanced in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:13.57.

Baltrusch qualified in the men’s mile with a time of 4:11.56.
