CARL GRUPP: THE WONDER OF LIFE, A Retrospective Exhibition

2005 is a year of celebration and recognition for Carl Grupp. In January of this year, he received the Governor’s Award for Distinction in Creative Achievement. After more than three decades of teaching at Augustana, Carl will retire and assume the title of Professor Emeritus of Art. Fortunately, both the Augustana community and the people of South Dakota have a chance to view his body of work, which spans more than 40 years, in his aptly titled retrospective exhibition, “The Wonder of Life.”

In the eyes of many, especially his students, Carl Grupp seems almost larger than life. Perhaps this notion comes from Carl’s ability to embrace all that life has to offer – personally, culturally, and intellectually – and then to translate his feelings into exquisite works of art that are personal, playful, poignant and ever powerful.

“The Wonder of Life,” which features paintings, drawings, and prints, is co-sponsored by Augustana College and The University of South Dakota. In Sioux Falls, the exhibit will be featured at two venues: The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana College (March 29 – April 24) and the Visual Arts Center at the Washington Pavilion (March 4 – May 15).

Gallery receptions will be held on April 1 from 5:30-7 PM at the Pavilion and from 7-9 PM at Augustana.

**Please note that because the April 1 reception falls during spring break, a second reception will be held at Augustana on April 8 from 5:30-7 PM. We hope that each of you will take advantage of these dates to view this outstanding show, and to congratulate Carl on his many artistic achievements.

Regular Eide/Dalrymple gallery hours are 12-5 PM, Tues.-Sun. (closed Mon.)
