SIOUX FALLS – Augustana College’s Jen Buyske won the national title in the javelin, while Luke Baltrusch and Rachel Stangler each earned All-America honors in the steeplechase at the 2005 NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships in Abilene, Texas.
Buyske, a freshman from Shelby, Mont., launched a school-record throw of 156 feet, 9 inches on her final attempt to win the national title, the first for an Augie track and field athlete since 1998. Buyske’s effort is also a South Dakota collegiate record. Her previous best was 152-5.
Baltrusch, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., became a two-time All-American in the steeplechase when he finished third in a time of 9:05.22. He placed fourth in the event a year ago.
Stangler, a sophomore from Albany, Minn., was eighth in a time of 10:57.84 to claim the final All-America position. Her time was a school and state collegiate record. Her previous best was 10:58.25 earlier this season.
Augustana’s Lindsey Schultz, a freshman from Lakeville, Minn., finished 16th in the discus finals. |
