Vikings’ McDougall Appointed to NCAA Advisory Committee
SIOUX FALLS – Matt McDougall, a junior from Brookings, S.D., has been appointed to the NCAA National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
McDougall will represent the North Central Conference on the 26-member committee. He is the first Augustana student-athlete appointed to this prestigious national committee.
The mission of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
The committee offers input on rules, regulations, and policies that affect student-athlete lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
McDougall, a member of the Augustana wrestling team, sat out last season with an injury. He serves as co-chair of the Augustana Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
He is majoring in biology and philosophy and is a Dean’s List student. He was an honorable mention selection on the 2004-2005 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team, and honorable mention NCC All-Academic at Large for wrestling.
In February, 2003, McDougall was named NCC wrestler of the week. In a dual with No. 2 North Dakota State University, McDougall defeated NDSU’s Paul Carlson, the top-ranked 157-pounder in NCAA Division II by a convincing 13-7 margin.
