Four Receive Outstanding Student Awards
SIOUX FALLS – Four Augustana students received the Roberts Program in Special Education Outstanding Student Awards for the 2004-2005 academic year.
The awards are based on commitment to the area of professional preparation, academic excellence, and involvement in student organizations that are affiliated with the Education Department.
Annmarie Kowalczyk, a senior from Ypsilanti, Mich., and Megan Moline, a senior from Sioux Falls, received Roberts Outstanding Student in Deaf Education awards.
Laura Grieme, a senior from Alta, Iowa, received the Roberts Outstanding Student in Communication Disorders Award.
Heidi Larson, a senior from Owatonna, Minn., received the Roberts Outstanding Student in Learning Disabilities Award.
The Ralph and Muriel Roberts Program in Communication Disorders established in 1985, began offering an undergraduate degree in speech language pathology in 1986. The major objective of the Roberts program is to provide pre-professional and professional training programs for individuals pursuing careers in education of the deaf, learning disabilities, and speech-language pathology and audiology.
Kowalczyk is majoring in education of the deaf and hard of hearing, history, and secondary education. She is the daughter of Brigid Kowalczyk of Ypsilanti, Mich., and John Kowalczyk of Duluth, Minn.
Moline majored in elementary education, and education of the deaf and hard of hearing. She graduated May 22 with magna cum laude distinction. She is the daughter of Mary and Mark Moline of Sioux Falls.
Grieme majored in communication disorders. She graduated May 22 with magna cum laude distinction. She is the daughter of Sue and Larry Grieme.
Larson majored in elementary education and special education. She graduated May 22. She is the daughter of Julie and Gene Larson.
Augustana is a liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
