Work Begins for Augustana Peace Scholars in Norway

2014 Peace Scholars

The 2014 Peace Scholars, including Augustana students Aimée Fisher (Montgomery, Minnesota) and Eric Herst (Weldon Springs, Missouri).

Juniors Aimée Fisher (Montgomery, Minnesota) and Eric Herst (Weldon Springs, Missouri) arrived in Norway on June 15 as Peace Scholars.

Over the next seven weeks, they will be joined by other students in the program to explore the Norwegian culture while discussing central issues and theories related to peace, justice, democracy and human rights through their coursework.

In their first week of the Nobel Peace Prize Forum’s scholarship program, Fisher and Herst spent time in Lillehammer at the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue. There, they met students from the Balkans and shared a dialogue on group discussion and negotiation. When the students were not in classroom sessions, they traveled with their new friends and made discoveries of their own.

“As we wander together, we have learned to make ourselves vulnerable, an important component of dialogue. We shared and enlightened one another not only during dialogue sessions, but as we wandered in Lillehammer,” Fisher wrote on her blog, "Norge: Stories of Peacemaking and Wanderlust."
