“Compassionate and Wise” describes Cyprian Consiglio’s message during his visit to Augustana the week of September 14-17, 2009.

Consiglio will discuss the “Universal Call to Contemplation” in lecture and in music on Thursday, September 17, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Reconciliation.

Consiglio’s concert on the evening of September 17 with long-time collaborator Dr. John Pennington will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. It will feature the unique music that they compose and perform together. The Augustana Choir and Dr. James Johnson, Director, will perform with Consiglio and Pennington.

A Camaldolese monk and teacher, Consiglio sings, plays the guitar, and composes. In his effort to be a bridge between the world’s great religious traditions, he fosters contemplative experiences through music, meditation and the study of sacred texts from many different faith traditions.

Events throughout the week are funded by Augustana's Office of Academic Affairs, Student Association, Chapel of Reconciliation, Organ Endowment, Department of Performing and Visual Arts: Music, and Hovland Center for Liturgical Arts.
