To the members of the Augustana Association and our sister congregations,
We are delighted to celebrate the inauguration of Robert C. Oliver as 23rd President of Augustana College, and ask that you join us in recognizing this important occasion with a prayerful blessing.
Sunday, October 1, marks the beginning of a week of inaugural events honoring Augustana's past Presidents and celebrating our future leader. It is important to this spiritual community to include a special invitation to you, inviting you to the inaugural festivities, as well as a special prayer request for the occasion.
Would you consider including the following special prayer petitions during the Prayer of the Church on Sunday, October 1st?
Prayer of the Church L: God of wisdom, we pray for all of our colleges and universities, especially for Augustana College and your servant Rob Oliver, as he is installed as the 23rd president of Augustana. Lord, in your mercy, C: Hear our prayer L: In your mercy, strengthen the church's ministry in Christian higher education at Augustana; that our students and all who work with them may continue to uplift high academic standards and probe deep spiritual and human questions. Lord, in your mercy, C: Hear our prayer L: That all our ministers in education may be strengthened with vision, leadership and the love of Christ as we prepare students for a life of service in your church and world. Lord, in your mercy, C: Hear our prayer L: For the blessings these young people return to us in lives of faith and service, we give you thanks and praise. Lord, in your mercy, C: Hear our prayers L: Into your hands, O God, we commend all who teach and learn, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen. |
