1. Student Learning Assessment

1a. Student learning assessment workshops

Program Strategy

1a. Two student learning assessment workshops for each academic division. We expect two workshops per year with a significant majority of the faculty attending at least one of the workshops.

Evaluation Activities

For each workshop, there will be three measurement points: pretest, posttest, and follow-up. Each instrument will contain items measuring satisfaction with both program and environmental variables. There will be item carryover for program variables, and at the follow-up, respondents will be asked questions about implementation of the ideas presented in the initial workshop. We will also examine the impact upon department plans and their regular assessment reports to Academic Affairs.

Specific Intended Outcomes

This goal will have been met when:

1. The majority of academic departments have sets of measurable student learning outcomes.

2. The number of departments with a curricular map increases.

3. The number of departments with multiple measurement items and a central assessment organizational scheme increases, e.g., portfolios, capstones, classroom level assessments, or standardized tests.

4. The College will move to a higher level on the Higher Learning Commission's Levels of Implementation.
