Faculty Development Grant Proposal
6. Vocation of the college and for our students: Implications for learning
6a. Revision of the orientation of new faculty process to include reading,
mentoring and evaluation of mission development
| Program Strategy |
6a. Revision of the orientation of new faculty process to include reading,
mentoring and evaluation of mission development. New faculty orientation,
by the V.P. for Academic Affairs, will include reading and discussion of
either Ernest Simmons, "Lutheran Higher Education: An Introduction
for Faculty," Augsburg Fortress, 1998, or Robert Benne, "Quality
with Soul: How Six Premier Colleges and Universities Keep Faith with Their
Religious Traditions," Eerdmans, 2001. |
| Evaluation Activities |
We will collect three years worth of data from the faculty being oriented
(as well as follow-ups with oriented faculty in later years), asking for
information on effectiveness and utility of the orientation process as
well as an assessment of the impact of the orientation on student learning. |
| Specific Intended Outcomes |
This goal will have been met when:
1. Mentoring relationships are established between each new faculty
member and one established faculty member.
2. Effective support structures are in place for new faculty.
3. The link between Augustana and the mission of Lutheran Higher Education
is more firmly established in the faculty.
