Call for Papers
Augustana Symposium - April 9, 2011
Augustana College students are invited to present their faculty-mentored, independent research at the Augustana Symposium. Students who would like to present their research should collaborate with a faculty member to prepare a submission of their project.
Instructions for online submissions
Submissions should be received by April 1, 2011. Students may use a paper version of the submission form or may submit via email to Darcie Rives-East in the English Department. If submitting electronically, make sure all of the following items are included in the email message.
- The title of the presentation
- The name(s) of the student presenter(s), and email addresses for each presenter
- The name of the faculty collaborator/sponsor
- The presentation format: either oral presentation or poster
- If an oral presentation, the time required: either 15 minutes (10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes Q & A) or 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation and 10 minutes Q & A)
- Technology, if any, needed for presentation
- An abstract of the presentation. The abstract should be a brief description of the research topic, research method or sources and anticipated conclusions of the study (250 words or less). Please provide an English translation if the original abstract is in another language. Abstracts may be included in the email message itself, or attached as Microsoft Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) documents. If an abstract is submitted as an attachment, also include the name of the student presenter(s), the name of the faculty sponsor(s), and the title of the presentation in the attached file.
In addition to the student submission, each application must be accompanied by an email message to Darcie Rives-East from the faculty collaborator in support of the application.
Augustana Library Associates Research Award
For those Symposium participants selecting an oral presentation, you are eligible to submit your research paper/report for the Augustana Library Associate's Research Award of $250. The winner will be announced before the keynote speaker on Saturday evening.
Submission requirements
A print version of your Symposium oral presentation (approx. 5-10 pages)
A reference or works cited list.
Items must be submitted by noon on April 1, 2011.

A committee will judge submissions by the following criteria:
Excellent command of written standard English
Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively to a general audience
Ability to synthesize resources used to create an original, well focused, coherent text
Evidence of understanding of appropriate research methodologies
