Prof. David W. Oxtoby visits Augustana CollegeWednesday Nov. 17, 1999 Prof. David W. Oxtoby is making three presentations at Augustana College on Wednesday Nov 17, 1999, at the invitation of the Stanley L. Olsen Chair of Moral Values. David Oxtoby home page Dr. Oxtoby is Professor of Chemistry and Dean of Physical Sciences at the University of Chicago. He is a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, near the University of Chicago and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Dr. Oxtoby speaks at 10:00 AM on Nov. 17 in the Augustana
Chapel of Reconciliation.
At 1:00 he meets with Arlen Viste's Chemistry 120H Honors class (GSC 34). Discussion will address two topics: global warming, and science and religion, the latter through this paper: David W. Oxtoby, "Sudden Change in the World," Zygon, 29 (4), 547-555 (December 1994). At 2:15 Dr. Oxtoby will be available for discussion with interested students. There will be a reception for Dr, Oxtoby at 3:30 in the GSC Pendulum Lounge. At 4:00 Dr. Oxtoby will present a Chemistry Seminar in GSC 241 on the topic, "Nucleation: How Liquids Condense, Boil, and Freeze." There will be an informal breakfast at 8:30 AM in the Commons, and a dinner off campus at 6:00 PM. The events throughout the day are open to all who are interested.
