Opportunities for Youth at OSL

The SILENT AUCTION to benefit the youth mission trip begins today in Fellowship Hall and continues through March 16. A variety of items are listed here and posted with items available for March 9, and 16. The auction ends March 16 at 12:15 p.m.

Mission Trip 2008 Registration:The high school youth will travel to San Francisco for the summer mission trip.  During the inner-city/urban trip, youth will work with the homeless, community centers for children programs, and food banks.  Two trips will be offered:  June 14-21 and July 12-19, 2008.  Registration has already begun with a deposit of $100 and total cost of $300. Registration after Jan. 1, 2007 will increase the cost to $325.  Fundraisers have begun! OSL “extra” activities:  tour of Alcatraz, visit to theRedwood Forest, time at Fisherman’s Warf, and exploring the city on the Trolley Car. Transportation:  Fly to the city and then rent mini-vans. Each trip has a maximum of 16 youth with three adult leaders.  For more information and a registration form click here.

Adventures in the Black Hills

June 8 – 13, 2008 for grades: entering 9 through current 12 

Want to sample some unique adventure in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota?  This special option is just for your group.  Your group gets to decide on the activities you want.  We'll have Bible study and worship along the way each day and time to hang out with old friends and make new friends.

  • Hiking to the high peaks in the Black Hills
  • Geocaching
  • Kayaking
  • Rock climbing
  • Spelunking and cave adventures
  • Mountain biking on the Mickelson Trail
  • Horseback riding
  • Backpacking
  • Fly fishing
  • Low ropes challenge course
  • Servant projects
LO can accommodate groups of 10 - 30 people in size.

Cost:  $290 for members, $340 for non-members with transportation provided.

Peer Ministry  For  High school youth, grades 9th – 12th.
Description/Purpose:
  The Peer Ministry Program trains and equips students to “walk with” other students through the joys and challenges of day to day life, bringing with them training in communication, decision making and questions of faith and life.
When: Every Sunday night for an hour and a half.  Sessions are for 14 weeks.

High School Youth Group  For  High school youth, grades 9th – 12th
Description/Purpose:
  Help youth learn more about their faith, make new friends, and have fun in a safe environment.
When: Every Wednesday, 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Girls, Girls, Girls  For  6th grade girls
Description/Purpose:
  Provide an opportunity for 6th grades girls to talk about boys, make-up, what does it mean to be a girl, and how it all relates to God.
Time Commitment: January – February, Wednesday nights for one hour and fifteen minutes.

Boys, Boys, Boys For 6th grade boys
Description/Purpose:  Provide an opportunity for 6th grades boys to learn about their faith through physical activities, talk about girls, learn about what it means to be a guy (and a child of God), and how it all relates to God.
Time Commitment: January – February, Wednesday nights for one hour and fifteen minutes.

Middle School Events For Middle school youth, grades 6th – 8th.
Description/Purpose:  Special events such as scavenger hunts, lock-ins, cosmic bowling.
When: Once a month.

Youth Leadership Team For  High school youth, grades 10th – 12th.
Description/Purpose:  Provide opportunities for youth to give in-put and leadership to youth ministry activities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:  Give suggestions and ideas for youth activities.  Provide leadership at youth events by welcoming new youth and encouraging healthy relationships.
Time Commitment: Twice a month for one hour.

Youth Worship Team For  High school youth, grades 10th – 12th.
Description/Purpose:
  Provide opportunities for youth to respond to God’s call to worship through leadership.  Youth provide leadership during Wednesday night worship and periodically on Sunday morning.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:  Lead confirmation youth and adults in prayer, skits, and music.  Singers, musicians, media coordinators, and actors are needed.
When: Every Wednesday, September – November and January – May.  Practice is one hour before worship with worship 20 minutes long.

Peer Ministry II - Discipleship For  High school youth, grades 10th - 12th who have previously gone through the Peer Ministry program.
Description/Purpose:
  Previous participants of the Peer Ministry program will expand their communication and people skills and focus on their spiritual development.
Time Commitment: Every week, January – May for an hour and a half.
