of South Dakota Prison Population in March 1994 Revealed:

47% OF FAMILIES WOULD TRAVEL OVER 250 MILES TO VISIT

36% INDICATED THAT THEIR FAMILIES WOULD VISIT MORE OFTEN IF THEY HAD A PLACE TO STAY

48% INDICATED THE ANNUAL SALARY OF THEIR FAMILY IS $5,00-$10,000 PER YEAR

1,200 inmates are housed in Sioux Falls at the SD Penitentiary

Average age of the inmates--23-26

70% of all marriages of those incarcerated will end in divorce within the first three years of imprisonment.

75% of the prison population is Caucasian

The majority of children of prison inmates are under age 13

Progress Report of Family Connection

-Served 255 guests in the last year 1997(82 were children)
-Over 670 guests served since opening -665 meals were served
-220+ volunteers have given over 8200 hours of work

-Bi-monthly WAIT (We Are Inmates Too) meetings held at the house. This is support group for inmate families facilitated by Pastor Iseminger.
-350 miles average distance traveled one way
-Income level of families between $250-1,100/month
-Guests from 22 states throughout the country have used the facility. (Norway and England)!

-Involvement with Job Service and Senior Employment (RSVP) volunteers for networking with other agencies.
-Children's Connection developed and started in December of 1997 which has the long range goal of interrupting the cycle of crime that develops more readily in the families of prison inmates. This program in the short-term helps children vision a healthier self-concept, make better choices, and develop a future perspective that will provide a more positive life outcome long range and potentially interrupt the cycle of crime. -Currently working to retire the capital debt on the house thru Adopt-A-Room and find ongoing funding for the ministry. 100% of your donation is used to serve families
