I am Jim Schade and I serve as the development counselor for the South Dakota Synod. Some of my responsibilities are representing the ELCA Foundation as regional director, helping individuals support the ministries of the church through planned giving, and counseling congregations in the establishment and oversight of endowment funds
I am new to this position as of January of 1998. Prior to this call I served as the Director of Property and Special Taxes Division for the South Dakota Department of Revenue.
My family and I, for the rest of this school year, live at Pierre. My wife, Nancy, is the director of the client assistance program at SD Advocacy Services. Reed, our oldest son, is a freshman engineering student at SD State University at Brookings, and Ross is a sophomore at Riggs High School in Pierre.
The development ministry was started 14 years ago to assist individuals with planned gifts. With the help of this ministry several hundred individuals have made significant gifts to various ministries through wills, charitable trusts, gift annuities plus other charitable gift instruments. These individuals have truly made a substantial impact on these ministries.
