Native American Ministries
The Rev. Larry Peterson
For the past seven years I have served as our synod's director of Native American Ministries. The Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota people, living on one of nine reservations or in urban centers, make up over 10% of the population of our state.
Most of our work is done ecumenically. Our main center for ministry and the place where I spend most of my time is on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Here at the Pine Ridge Retreat Center we work cooperatively with the Presbyterian Church, USA.
One main component of my ministry is to host groups of people for cross-cultural retreats. Length of stay varies from a one-day event to two weeks or longer.
