Opportunities
Building Supervisor
Supervisors will be expected to coordinate
various intramural and recreational activities going on in the building.
They evaluate and supervise other staff members. They are responsible
for staff training and security of the building. CPR training required.
Students must be at least a sophomore and have experience working
with Rec Services.
Team Leader
These individuals coordinate team activities for their respective
rec. services team. They are responsible for creating enthusiasm
and servant heart leadership within their team. They will plan and
coordinate activites and events which their team will be in charge
of. They will assist with staff and program evaluation and training.
The following positions are available: aerobics, weight room, lifeguard,
intramurals, and promotions.
Lifeguards
Lifeguards supervise the people using
the pool and provide lifesaving knowledge and skills as needed.
Lifeguards must have valid certificates in both lifeguard training
and CPR. Lifeguards meet throughout the school year to review and
discuss lifeguarding techniques and procedures. Opportunities are
available to teach swimming lessons as well.
Weight Room Supervisors
Supervisors maintain the policies and procedures set by the department.
Knowledge in strength training is helpful and encouraged as supervisors
are expected to assist students and faculty with their personal
strength programs. A current CPR certificate required. Workshops
are required.
Aerobics Instructors
Instructors teach a variety of aerobics
classes. Previous experience is preferred but not necessary. A valid
CPR certificate and occasional workshops are required.
Office Assistants
These individuals provide general administrative
support such as answering phones, relaying information about the
recreation facility and programs, and data entry. In addition this
staff checks out all recreation equipment. A valid CPR certificate
is required.
Intramural Officials
Student employees will be used to officiate intramural sports such
as flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, and
walleyball. Officials are required to attend anywhere from one to
four, hour long training sessions, before the various intramural
sports begin. Officials are given training in the areas of rules,
mechanics, and court/field positioning. A current CPR certificate
will be required. Previous experience is preferred, but not required.
Facility Event Staff
We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working
individuals to "set-up" chairs, tables, floor covering
etc, when we are host to events in the Elmen Center.
Concession Staff
We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working
individuals to work in the concession stand during events the Elmen
Center hosts. (This does not include Augustana Athletic events.)
Water Safety Instructors
Instructors teach a variety of Red Cross
Certified classes ranging from Toddlers through Adult. An American
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate is required. School
Year Lessons are once a week for eight weeks on Monday or Wednesday
nights or Saturday mornings. Summer Lessons are 4 times a week for
two weeks.
Locker Room Attendants
These individuals assist children in
the locker room and guiding them onto the pool deck. They will assist
the instructors in the water with children as well as on the pool
deck. Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.
Lifeguards (Learn to Swim
Program)
Lifeguards are needed for open recreation
time as well as during our youth swim lesson program. Lifeguards
must have a current Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
