The 2009-10 Solberg Staff

Chrissy Klesh - Solberg Hall Director / Res Life Leadership Developmant Coordinator

Welcome to South Side!  I love adventure, and so I love my job- every day is different. It is challenging and exciting to come alongside first-year students as they transition to college.  This will be my third year directing a freshmen building.  Before coming to Augustana, I back-packed through the UK and Ireland, lived on both coasts, worked as an Americorps VISTA, taught at a juvenile detention center, and directed non-profit volunteer programs. Oh, and I have a busy two year-old!  (the biggest adventure yet!)

I attend Sioux Falls Seminary part-time, pursuing a Master’s degree in Intercultural and Leadership Studies.

My husband, Adam, and daughter, Zoey join me in the Solberg HD apartment.  I will often take Zoey with me to toddle around the building and she is so lucky to grow up with lots of playmates. She likes to hug football players, especially.  I like to cook (as long as I don’t have to do dishes), watch movies, work out, and joke around. I am also a good listener, which comes in handy for those times when the transition to college is difficult. Not much suprises me.

Solberg Hall is a fun, busy, and creative building.  Students here work hard and study hard, but we also have a lot of fun.  In addition to working as a Hall Director,I am also responsible for facilitating the training and hiring of student leaders in the Res. Life department. Additionaly, I supervise the Freshmen Study Center tutors and the Freshmen Leadership Program students (FLP) in both South Side buildings.  The FLP students have a lot of freedom to plan fun activities in the Halls.  Typical things the FLP students or PA’s have done are Wii gaming nights, crafts, movies, service projects, 50’s night, Birthday Club, walking tacos, pancakes, sundaes, etc.  Solberg Hall is a great place to live!

Year at Augie:

Favorite Augie Experience:
Hanging out with all of the guys on my floor freshman year. Each night I'd be getting to go to bed, but I'd end up staying at least another hour just talking with the guys. I probably lost quite a few hours of sleep throughout the year, but all the stories I accumulated over the year were worth it.

Summer Plans:
I'll be conducting research through Sanford (but I'll be working at Avera...funny how things work out sometimes.) It's summer, so I'm going to have fun with my friends, and hopefully I get some motivation to work out and get back into shape.

One thing you're looking forward to being on Res Life Staff:
I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of new people and getting to know them. Hopefully I can help with making the transition into college a bit smoother for some and have fun doing it.

Year at Augie:

Favorite Augie Experience:
Only one!?! I have had so many amazing experiences at Augie. My top two would be randomly deciding to go to get a late night snack at Perkins with my friends racing around campus with Kelly and about ten other people on the campus safety cart during the first week of school. There may also have been a raid on Berg with nerf guns.

Summer Plans:
I am working at Lewis in the pharmacy and camera/video department, while also making time to hang out with my family and friends. I also plan to go to Wisconsin salmon fishing in July.

One thing you're looking forward to being on Res Life Staff:
I'm looking forward to the experience of meeting many new people and building friendships with all of them. I also can't wait to form a comaraderie with my fellow staff members. I am so excited to meet my floor!

Although I had so many memorable experiences at Augustana last year, running to USF to spread a little Augie school spirit with friends late at night was a blast. Also, the numerous random and fun experiences I had with my amazing friends are unforgettable.
