CONSTITUTION OF THE AUGUSTANA AUGIEHOLICS
Article I: Name
Section 1: The name of the association shall be the Augustana Augieholics.
Section 2: The term “Augieholic” can be used to define any student who feels the need to support Viking Athletics and one who exhibits Viking Pride in excess.
Article II: Purpose
The mission of the Augustana Augieholics is to be a student-led fan group in charge of raising attendance at Viking sporting events as well as raising the morale of people in attendance. The group is dedicated to bringing students together as a unified force to provide the athletes of Augustana College positive support and encouragement.
Article III: Membership
All enrolled students of Augustana College who desire to support Viking Athletics can be members of the Augustana Augieholics. Active Members are all those Augieholics who have signed a Contract of Commitment, who are a member of at least one (1) Active Committee and who continue their ongoing commitment to the Augieholics by attending committee meetings and meetings presided over by the Executive Committee.
Article IV: Executive Branch
Section 1: Executive Committee
Comprised of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Major.
Section 2: Qualifications.
Each of the Augieholics officers must:
Clause 1. Be Active Members of the Augieholics for one year prior to their year of service.
Clause 2. Be an enrolled student at Augustana College.
Clause 3. Be actively involved in the support of Augustana Athletics.
Section 3: Selection of Officers.
The appointment of the successive Executive Committee for the next term of office shall be determined by the present Executive Committee through a process of nomination, application and interview. This will take place by April 1st of each year.
Section 4: Term of Office.
The term of office of the Augieholics officers shall be one calendar year in length, beginning May 1st and ending April 30th of the following year There is a 1 month transition period left between the current Executive Committee and the incumbent Executive Committee. However, should the need arise to eliminate or instate an officer, the power is given to the Executive Board to make that decision based on qualifications outlined in Section 2 of Article IV.
Section 5: Meetings
The Executive Committee is responsible for holding and presiding over at least one meeting per month for the duration of the term of office. Meetings shall be open to any Augieholics member. Active Members have the ability to vote on issues regarding the Augieholics and their activities.
Section 6: Succession.
Upon the removal or resignation of the President, the Vice President shall assume the office of the President until the presidential term ends. In the event that the offices of the President and Vice President become vacated, the Secretary will act as presiding officer and so on. The remaining members of the Executive Committee retain the power to instate new officers as necessity calls by a majority vote of Active Members.
Section 7: Duties and responsibilities of the Augieholics President.
Clause 1. To organize all events pertaining to Augieholics and to allocate duties according to the needs and tasks within each event.
Clause 2. To encourage a safe and supportive atmosphere at every Augieholic Event.
Clause 3. To make information on Augieholics available to all students enrolled at Augustana College.
Clause 4. To preside over or designate the acting chairperson of the Executive Committee at all meetings of the Augieholics.
Clause 5. To request reports on activity, structure, and function of all committees acting under and/or for the Augieholics.
Clause 6. To act as a liaison between the Augieholics and other active student organizations on campus as well as the surrounding community regarding the Augieholics.
Clause 7. To present a plan of operation and objectives to the Executive Committee during his or her first six (6) weeks of office.
Clause 8. To make all necessary appointments to standing committees involving students and the faculty advisor, pending approval by the Executive Committee.
Clause 9. To allocate funds to each Active Committee
Clause 10. To fulfill all duties, responsibilities, and obligations conferred upon the office by the Augieholics.
Clause 11. To exercise voting power within the Executive Committee.
Clause 12. To request funding from ASA during budget Allocations.
Section 8: Duties and responsibilities of the Augieholics Vice President.
Clause 1. To serve as liaison between the Executive Committee and student body.
Clause 2. To exercise voting power within the Executive Committee.
Clause 3. To develop and maintain a viable relationship with other Augustana College student organizations and, when appropriate, the student governments of other colleges and universities.
Clause 4. To preside at all meetings of the Augieholics and of the Executive Committee in the absence of or at the discretion of the Augieholics President.
Clause 5. To fulfill all duties, responsibilities, and obligations conferred upon the office by the Augieholics.
Section 9: Duties and responsibilities of the Augieholics Secretary.
Clause 1. To record the minutes of all meetings of the Augieholics and to maintain records of the status of all motions and resolutions presented to the Executive Committee.
Clause 2. To act as the keeper of the Augieholics Binder which contains all activity, records, and information regarding the Augieholics.
Clause 3. To exercise voting power within the Executive Committee
Clause 4. To communicate activity of the Augieholics as delegated by the Executive Committee and all Active Committees.
Section 10: Duties and responsibilities of the Augieholics Treasurer
Clause 1. To record transactions and maintain a record of the Augieholics budget.
Clause 2. To exercise voting power within the Executive Committee.
Clause 3. To act as liaison between the Augieholics and the Augustana Business Office.
Clause 4 To inform the Augieholics of expenditures at every meeting or upon request.
Clause 5. To authorize the appropriation of all monies from the Augieholics Account.
Clause 6. To prepare financial reports as requested by ASA.
Section 11: Duties and responsibilities of the Augieholics Major.
Clause 1. To perform a wide variety of tasks as delegated by the Executive Committee at the start of and throughout each term of office.
Clause 2. To act as the student voice within the Executive Committee ensuring that the best interests of the student body are maintained.
Clause 3. To exercise voting power within the Executive Committee.
Article V: Active Committees
Section 1: Qualifications.
Committees shall be led by committee chairs who are appointed on a volunteer basis. Each committee chair will be approved by the Executive Committee.
Section 2: Purpose.
Each committee shall be responsible for a specific area appointed. Areas shall include but are not limited to each individual sport, Viking Days, T-Shirts, and Recruitment. However, the Executive Committee holds power to add or remove committees according to necessity.
Section 3: Term of Service
Each committee shall be active for three weeks prior to and for the duration of the season of their specified sport or event. For committees not concerning a sport or an event, such as T-Shirts or Recruitment, the term of service shall be one calendar year starting May 1st and concluding April 30th of the following year.
Section 4: Membership.
Each committee shall be comprised of Active Members on a volunteer basis. Each member must contact the committee chair and sign a contract of commitment.
Section 5: Duties and Responsibilities.
Clause 1. Each Active Committee shall be responsible for the assignment appointed (e.g. Viking Days, T-Shirts, etc.)
Clause 2. Each Active Committee shall report on a regular basis to the Executive Committee as to the activity of their committee.
Clause 3. Each Active Committee chair has the power to recruit committee members as necessary.
Clause 4. Each Active Committee must advertise and promote their individual events.
Clause 5. Each Active Committee must make a significant contribution to the advancement of their assignment for the coming year.
Clause 6. Each Active Committee chair is responsible for presenting a proposal for the events and activities to be completed during the present term of office two weeks following their appointment.
Clause 7. Each Active Committee chair is responsible for completing an evaluation of the events and activites that were completed throughout their term of office two weeks following the completion of their last event or activity.
Article VI: Budgetary Arbitration
Section 1. Purpose.
The purpose of the budget is to supply the necessary funds to the Active Committees in order to fulfill their responsibilities.
Section 2. Allocations of Funds
All expendatures shall be approved by the Executive Committee. Each Active Committee is responsible for using their funds responsibly and for the improvement of their sport or event.
Section 3.
All funds received from ASA will be spent in accordance to the By-Laws of ASA.
Article VII: Meetings
Section 1: Augieholics
Clause 1. Meetings of the Augieholics will be held monthly at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
Clause 2. Meetings are open to all members of the Augieholics.
Clause 3. Meetings must be presided over by at least three-fifths of the Executive Committee.
Clause 4. Only Active Members are allowed to vote at these meetings.
Section 2: Active Committees
Clause 1. Each Committee Chair is responsible for holding meetings at their own discretion.
Article VIII: Responsibility
Section 1: Sportsmanship Policy
The Augieholics organization does not take responsibility for the specific behaviors of Augieholics members outside of specific Augieholic events. Individuals acting unappropriately, or in an embarrassing manner in the eyes of the public or Augustana College will assume responsibility of their own actions. The Augieholics strive to maintain a healthy and encouraging environment at all events and will attempt to sustain the reputation of Augustana College.
Section 2: Drug and Alcohol Policy
The Augieholics do not take responsibility for the specific actions of Augustana students at large concerning the consumption of alcohol or other mind-altering substances prior to, at, or after athletic events. We do realize that the consumption of such substances may take place; however, the Augieholics as an organization will not support the consumption of such substances.
Article IX: Amendment Procedure
Section 1: Amendments
All amendments to this constitution must be approved by a two-thirds vote of the Augieholics Active Members.
